Marthe est représentée se lavant, courbée dans sa baignoire. Son corps, sa chevelure et l’ovale de son sein sont figurés au moyen de hachures serrées très appuyées ne laissant apparaître qu’un halo de lumière sur son dos. Pierre Bonnard travaille ici tel un peintre impressionniste, capable de capter la lumière de l’instant. Juste suggérée, la baignoire évoque la salle de bain du  Bosquet.

Marthe is represented at her toilette, bent over in the bathtub. Her body, hair, and the curve of her breast are drawn in bold, tight hatching, letting only a halo of light appear on her back. Pierre Bonnard approaches this drawing like an impressionist, able to catch the light in the instant. The bathtub is only suggested, an evocation of the bathroom in Le Bosquet.
